Interview preparation TIP
Understand the information of the university and department you are applying for
Think of it as the school you will attend in the future and check the university and department homepage, official blog, and YouTube channel in advance to see the talent, curriculum, and faculty of the university and department. It will help you plan how to expand your dreams and what activities you will do during your college life, and it will also reduce your tension on the day of the interview.
Anticipate interview questions from school life records
A document-based interview is a question and answer session that is linked to the contents of the school life record submitted by the applicant. The interviewer selects the interview questions based on the contents that were curious about the applicant during the document evaluation. Therefore, think of yourself as an interviewer and prepare answers in advance by organizing the parts that are unclear or need additional explanation in the student record.
Practice expressing your own experiences in words
To give a faithful answer in a limited time, it is more important to prepare yourself to express your thoughts sincerely in words than to show off your eloquence. You can practice this through presentations at school or other occasions.
Make a story rather than a short answer
You are the best person to know about your school life. The questions are not about the simple truth of your activities, but about the experiences you gained from them. A short answer is not a good answer. Try to explain the process of your activities in detail, so that they can see if you really have the knowledge you gained from them.
Practice speaking without revealing yourself
Almost all universities, including Seoul National University and Chung-Ang University, conduct blind interviews. You are not allowed to wear school uniforms, and you should not mention your name, exam number, personal information, or social and economic status of your parents (including relatives) (such as job title, occupation, workplace, position, etc.) during the interview.
Become an interviewer and do a mock interview
The interview is conducted in a tense atmosphere, so it is natural that some habits that you did not expect, such as speech patterns, may appear. If you objectify your appearance by recording a video of yourself in an interview situation, you can see if there are any elements in your interview attitude that might make the interviewer uncomfortable. Can you explain what a functionalist perspective is, how data was collected, and how it was interpreted? You mentioned that you discovered that there is no correlation between minimum wage and real wage by analyzing wage structures in a policy club on campus. How did you analyze the data? Please explain in detail what evidence led you to think that way. You said that you investigated the use of mathematics in creating animation in an exploration report on differentiation. Can you explain the mathematical principles used in the animation?
The following is an interview with Konkuk University students in the 2023 academic year.
Humanities
You wrote a column on the history of communication literature and modern internet culture. Why do you think literature is in crisis in the digital age? You conducted a topic investigation on "English standardization and bilingual policy." What direction do you think is desirable in relation to this? You performed an activity related to advertising in your class yesterday. What are some ways to solve distorted perceptions that advertising can create? I noticed that you did an activity in your third-year newspaper reading class where you expanded an education-related article to think critically. In particular, there was a mention of an article about elementary school test-passing students who were not appointed. What are some ways to solve this non-appointment problem in a low birthrate society?
Natural Science
You presented the formula and calculation of the integral of Riemann and the development of the integral of Riemann into the integral of Lebesgue. Please explain what it is. You proved the process of finding the derivative by extending n from a natural number to a real number for a polynomial function whose highest degree is n during your math 2 class. Please explain this. You made a gyroscopic experiment kit to make it easy to learn about rotational inertia and donated it. What was the experiment process like? You presented on "The Chemical Action of Ultraviolet Rays and Insects" as a topic. Have you ever conducted an experiment comparing the sterilization power of natural substances (baking soda, citric acid, and sodium bicarbonate) in chemistry class? Please explain the process of the experiment. What are the limitations of natural substances? You gave a presentation on gradient descent during your math 2 class. What is gradient descent? Have you ever thought about the pros and cons of gradient descent? Please explain the wavelength distribution of ultraviolet rays and the mechanism by which ultraviolet rays cause skin damage. You presented a city construction model that can be continuously developed. What was the content? Also, why did you present that model? You investigated the operating principle of robots through cluster activities. What robot did you use and what is the operating principle?
Humanities/Natural Science
You said you made a program that distinguishes whether an input integer value is even or odd. Please explain how you made it. You investigated the differentiation strategy of Korean content during your career counseling class. What is your preferred differentiation strategy?
